Crochet Headbands from Scrap Yarn: Everything You Need to Know About the New Pattern!

Good morning! If you follow my InstaStories, you've definitely seen the pile of colorful crochet headbands. The official launch of my newest pattern is happening this coming Monday!

But before the file hits the shop, I want to clear up your doubts and answer your questions (the ones you asked, and the ones probably on the tip of your tongue). I'm taking you behind the scenes of this project so you know exactly what to expect.

๐Ÿงถ Pattern Philosophy: Free Your Scraps!

The main goal of this project was to create something maximally versatile that will allow us to clear out our yarn stash. Forget about strict guidelines and buying new skeins for a project. This is the time for creativity!

Which yarn to choose?

Short answer: any that you have at home. Headbands are the perfect "stash-busting" project. Unlike summer tops or sweaters, headbands don't have to be 100% breathable. This means you can finally use up all those synthetic materials (acrylics, polyesters) that are sitting at the bottom of your closet and aren't suitable for clothes. Of course, cotton, linen, or mohair will also work great. Mix, match, and test!

Yarn weight vs. hook size

Most of us have scraps of various thicknesses. To make your job as easy as possible and not force you to juggle ten different hooks, I made one decision: I made all the headbands in the pattern with a 4.0 mm hook.

What does this mean in practice?

  • If you use thicker yarn, the headband will come out wider/longer.

  • If you use thinner yarn โ€“ it will come out narrower/shorter.

  • This is completely okay! The construction of the headbands forgives such differences. They will still fit great, and you will be able to tie them without any problems.

๐ŸŽจ What if I run out of yarn halfway through?

This is the most common fear with scrap projects. In this pattern, running out of yarn is not a problem, but an excuse to create something unique!

If you run out of a given color halfway through the headband, just tie on another one. I did this in one of my headbands (I ran out of purple mohair, so one tie is white and the rest is colorful) and it looks phenomenal. The pattern is designed to encourage you to experiment.

The only exception: The checkered headbands. To maintain the aesthetic checkerboard pattern, I actually recommend having about half a skein of two chosen colors prepared here.

๐ŸŽ“ Who is this pattern for and what will you find in it?

I wanted this project to be accessible, relaxing, and give a lot of satisfaction from a quick result.

  • Difficulty level: The pattern is based on absolutely basic stitches. It will work great even as your first paid pattern ever.

  • Video support: Instructional videos are included for every tricky moment.

  • Weaving in ends: Good news for those who hate it โ€“ there are very few of them here! Additionally, I show my clever way of hiding them as you go (especially with the checkered pattern).

  • Modifications: I don't give you a dry "do it exactly like me" recipe. In the pattern, I describe exactly how to widen, narrow, shorten, or lengthen the headband yourself to perfectly fit your head circumference.

Summary

This pattern is an invitation to play. Pull out your scraps, trust your creativity, and create something beautiful out of what you already have.

Launching this Monday! Be sure to follow my Instagram profile โ€“ for those who keep up with me there, I'm preparing a small surprise gift for the premiere.

Talk to you soon and happy crocheting!
